Don't ignore deadlines to exempt your car from taxation

Just because you didn't receive a tax bill last year on your mixed-use vehicle doesn't mean you never will. The Proposition 6 campaign brought the issue of taxing personal vehicles that are also used for business purposes to the attention of many who never knew about it. And now appraisal districts know that you must file an exemption annually to avoid this tax.

There are two deadlines this year you must meet to exempt your vehicle from taxation: April 1 is the deadline for your 2007 exemption, and May 1 is the deadline for your 2008 exemption. Read more about how to file an exemption in the last issue of Texas REALTOR® Focus.
